Dr. Qu received his B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Automatic Control) from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), Beijing, China, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Chicago, Illinois, USA.

In 2007, he joined Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc., Hoffman Estates, IL, USA, where he is currently a senior scientist. Before joining Siemens, he was a senior research scientist with Motorola Research Laboratories at the global headquarters of Motorola Inc., Schaumburg, Illinois, USA. He had also worked as an assistant researcher in joint research projects between Motorola Labs and University of Illinois for two years. From 2000 to 2002, he was a research assistant at Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. After that, he joined UIC where he worked as a research assistant with Prof. Dan Schonfeld at Multimedia Communications Laboratory. In the summer of 2005, he worked as a visiting intern researcher with Dr. Fatih Porikli at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. He also had worked as an intern researcher at Computer Aided Diagnosis Division at Siemens Medical Solutions Inc., Malvern, Pennsylvania, USA.

Dr. Qu has authored over thirty technical papers in various journals and conferences. He has served regularly as a reviewer for different journals and conferences, such as IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Neural Network, IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo., IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, etc. Dr. Qu received the Best Paper Award in the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2006. He was a recipient of the Award of Sigma Xi Science Research Forum in 2006, and the Honor of of Phi Kappa Phi Excellent Student in 2004. In the academic year 2002 to 2003 and 2005 to 2006, he won the most prestigious University Fellowship at University of Illinois.
